Built in around 1500, Dalston Hall’s Pele Tower which initially stood alone, and to which various additions and extensions were made in the subsequent years. In 1897 and together with the construction of the entrance side of the building, extensive refurbishment of the interior took place. This created “a magnificent mansion surpassing perhaps even its ancient glories”, to quote a leading antiquarian of the day.
